Persons with Developmental Disabilities program

It is a government-funded program that helps eligible adults with developmental disabilities to live as independently as possible and be active members of their communities. It is often the program an individual transitions to after they turn 18, having previously been supported by the FSCD program (Family Support for Children with Disabilities).

Focus and Goal

  • Focus: Adults (18 years and older) with developmental disabilities.

  • Goal: To help eligible individuals plan, coordinate, and access necessary services and supports to achieve their personal goals and live a fulfilling life in their community.

  • Mechanism: Services are determined through an Individual Support Plan (ISP) developed collaboratively by the individual, their support team, and a PDD worker.

 

​Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for PDD services, an individual must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Be 18 years or older when services begin (you can apply at age 16)

  • Residency: Reside in Alberta and be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Disability: Have a developmental disability that originated before the age of 18 - 1)This typically means a significant limitation in both intellectual    capacity (often an IQ of 70 or less) and adaptive skills (the ability to function in daily life). 2) The diagnosis must be a developmental disability, not solely a physical disability, health condition, or mental health disorder.
