Family Support for Children with Disabilities

It is a voluntary, government-funded program designed to support families who are raising a child with a disability at home. The program focuses on promoting the child's healthy development and encouraging their participation in community life.

Purpose of FSCD

The program works with eligible families to:

  • Provide supports and services based on the child's individual needs and the impact of the disability on the family.

  • Help parents with some of the extraordinary costs related to the child's disability.

  • Maintain the family's role as the primary caregiver, with the parents remaining the guardians and responsible for all decision-making.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the FSCD program, families must meet several criteria:

  • Age: The child with a disability must be under 18 years old.

  • Residency: The child and the parent/guardian must reside in Alberta.

  • Guardianship: The person applying must be the child's parent or legal guardian.

  • Disability: The child must have a diagnosed disability (or be in the process of diagnosis) that is chronic and significantly limits their normal daily living activities.

  • Documentation: You must provide medical documentation from an appropriate health professional confirming the diagnosis.
